Why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday

November 22, 2012

I love how Thanksgiving pulls together my family and inspires me to be in the moment.   For me it isn’t just about sitting at a table with loved ones to give thanks. It’s about the adventure to get there and the moments in between: pouring over recipes with my husband, visiting our Farmers Market, watching my 7 and 8 year old kids decorate the house. The whole extended family, including the kids, works as a team assembling our feast. I find when I can relax and let go of trying to make everything perfect, I feel balanced and happy. Here are some of the ways I keep my sanity and appreciate every minute of my favorite holiday:

1.)  I have no problem delegating tasks. From ordering our turkey to sweeping the floor, my guests work as a team to make it happen. This year I am hosting my entire extended family (15 people) so I opted for a potluck of course!

2.)  Letting go of my Martha Stewart aspirations. My house may not be the most tidy on the planet and my placemats and napkins will likely not match, but I plan to have a major snuggle fest with my kids instead of spending that time making everything perfect.

3.)  Move all day long. Traditionally I start my morning with a barre3 class—my FAVORITE class to teach or take is on turkey day! I also grab a family member or my dog and take mini walks around our block during breaks from cooking. It’s fun running into neighbors and the fresh air keeps me happy.

These are just a few tips. What do you do to stay balanced? I’d love to hear from you.

barre3 Thanksgiving week canned food drive

November 15, 2012

One of our guiding principles at barre3 is “Give Generously”.   For me, Thanksgiving celebrates this principle more than any other Holiday.  There are no expectations of fancy gifts or extravagant parties.  Just simple, thoughtful time with those I care for including my community. This year we are collecting canned food in all of our studios nationwide. In exchange for bringing in a few cans of food, we are giving complimentary classes out.  This is a simple way to give back and connect with us.

You can also join us for a festive class on Thanksgiving morning.  These are my absolute favorite classes to teach and take.   My local barre3 studio is part of my extended family and I know all my franchisees and many of our clients feel the same way.  We are truly blessed.  If you can’t fit that in, do a quick barre3 online workout while stirring your Risotto!   And, if you opt for this, please think of my Mom and I sipping our bubbly doing a few barre3 moves of our own!   Cheers to you and your family.

Warm Holiday wishes to all of you!
